Liquid Soap

This is a soap opera-inspired storygame which is Powered by the Apocalypse, meaning it uses many of the rules first featured in Apocalypse World by Vincent & Meguey Baker. It is worth saying at this point, that this is intended as a very tongue-in-cheek game, more of a toy really, so don’t take me too seriously: I’m just having a laugh and so should you. When I say this is soap opera-inspired, I’m mostly thinking of the cheesy daytime soaps that roll off the conveyor belts of TV production to fill gaps in the schedule and attract sponsors, so the bar is set quite low.

This updated Writers' Room edition includes the following materials:

Liquid Soap: the core rules in a compact 15 pages, with some clarification to basic moves and a new Story Arcs mechanic that replaces the old Arcs, opening up the potential of these storylines to more players.
Card Backstories & Card Relationships: two set of cards for creating all the complicated baggage a soap opera character comes pre-loaded with.
Liquid Soap Cast List: the nine playbooks available to be used in the Dramatic Reveal edition, including the addition of The Crook from the Atomic Summer project!

Also, as a bonus feature to support online play, this spreadsheet contains versions of all the above playbooks, with the backstory & relationship cards integrated into drop-down menus, as well as a summary of the basic & peripheral moves. Take a copy and share it with the players in your online group, remembering to give them editing permissions so they can fill in their own characters.
