Foretold: In Its Shadow, Reviled Edition!

A year ago, I wrote four short games in four months, all based around the same concept, drawing cards from a deck and reading out prompts to direct the story, inspired by games such as For the Queen, Women Are Werewolves and the older In a Wicked Age. I've been very happy with the way all these games have been received and have been privileged to read and hear actual play reports from around the world.

There was one piece of feedback I got from nearly everone who played though, the same comments about the same game; why doesn't Foretold: In Its Shadow have different prompts for the second act? The short and easy answer is, it would have doubled the work needed! Each of these games requires me to come up with at least 52 prompts, all of which have to focus on the game's themes, but be at least a little bit different from each other, so I took a shortcut with the first one written to get myself started on this whole project.

Now, one year later, I've had time to see the game in action in other people's hands and get a better feel for the story arc it creates, so I present to you today Foretold: In Its Shadow, Reviled Edition! This new edition has dedicated rules & prompts for the second act of the game. In response to the feedback, the second act now no longer relies on the same set of prompts as the first act, but has a dedicated set of prompts to describe the epic battle that occurs when the Hunters face the Beast! In addition, there are new rules for Red & Black cards in the second act which can create sweeping changes in the unfolding battle and finally give the Beast a real chance to defeat the Hunters!

This is still the same game as it was before, just with a more intense second act, focused on the back & forth of the final battle while still creating space for character moments and dramatic revelations, just like the first act, with the added bonus of new victory conditions for the Beast, should the Hunters fall in battle! Now get out there and drive out that shadow that has fallen upon the land, but also upon your own hearts!
